Dear Colleagues,

on behalf of the EurBee 11 Local Organizing Committee, it is a great pleasure to invite you to attend to the 11th European Conference of Apidology, which will take place in Bologna, Italy, from 7 to 10 September 2026. Conference venue will be the Bologna Congress Center.

We all know that the EurBee Conferences are central scientific gatherings for apidologists in Europe and beyond. Started in Udine in 2004 and after an extensive tour throughout Europe, our biennial Conference has now landed back in Italy. This is thanks to the joint efforts of two long-standing apidological institutions in Bologna: CREA Research Centre for Agriculture and Environment and University of Bologna – Department of Agriculture and Food Sciences.

Over the years, the study of bees has reached unprecedented levels of complexity, intertwining with other fields of science. The challenges faced by bees and new technologies have opened up new frontiers. Apidology has expanded, embracing topics of interest to beekeepers, urgent ecological issues, matters of pure scientific knowledge, and even regulatory and ethical aspects.

Within the EurBee 11 Local Organising Committee, we felt that the time was ripe to reflect this unparalleled articulation and create original topics. The themes addressed by the keynotes also follow this logic.

We would like everyone to find EurBee 11 to be the ideal forum for exploring bee science in a new, stimulating, interdisciplinary and in-depth way. We want it to be an environment that generates new ideas, collaborations and projects, where personal differences are always valued. That is why we chose the motto for EurBee 11 to be: ‘Like foraging bees. We seek novelty, we need cooperation and we profit from diversity’.

Bologna is the ideal place to enjoy a positive Conference experience. Not only is it easily accessible from anywhere in Europe, but it is a city of art, music, gastronomy and much more, offering memorable evenings to reward the hard intellectual work done during the day.

We managed to keep the registration fees low, especially for students, for whoever registers as earlybird, and for whoever elects to be an EurBee member. So, you are all invited to register, submit one or more contributions, and purchase your travel ticket to join us at the 11th European Conference of Apidology. Bologna is reached by the high speed railway, so you may wish to check out environmentally-friendly travel options.

Arrivederci a Bologna!

Antonio Nanetti
