Frequently Asked Questions

1. General

What is EurBee 11?

EurBee 11 is the 11th edition of the European Conference of Apidology, a major biennial scientific event dedicated to research on honey bees and wild bees. The conference convenes researchers, scientists, veterinarians, extensionists, and stakeholders from across Europe and beyond to exchange knowledge, present new findings, and foster scientific cooperation

EurBee 11 is a joint initiative of two well-established apidological institutions based in Bologna, Italy: CREA Research Centre for Agriculture and Environment and Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna.

There are no restrictions to participation. While apidologists are expected to represent most attendees, the conference also welcomes veterinarians, technicians, beekeepers, extension specialists, policy-makers, and other stakeholders involved in bee-related activities. All interactions will take place in English.

The conference will be held from 7 to 10 September 2026 at the Bologna Congress Center, Piazza Costituzione 4/a, 40128 Bologna, Italy. The venue is within walking distance of the city centre and well-served by public transport.

For any question about the conference, please write to the organising team at eurbee2026@edagricole.it.

2. Venue & Accessibility

Is the venue wheelchair-accessible?

Yes. The Bologna Congress Center is equipped with lifts and ramps for people with disabilities throughout all its facilities.

The Bologna Congress Center is located at Piazza Costituzione 4/a and is within walking distance of the city centre. Several bus lines stop nearby.

Accompanying people are welcome at the opening ceremony, guided tour, and gala dinner. Scientific sessions, however, are restricted to registered delegates.

The opening cocktail reception, coffee breaks, light lunches, guided tour, and gala dinner all provide ample opportunity for informal exchange and collaboration. The organisers will also endeavour to create dedicated spaces at the venue — with seats and tables — for small group meetings.

No. Accommodation and travel costs are not included in the registration fee and must be arranged independently. Bologna offers a wide range of hotels and guesthouses for all budgets, many within easy reach of the Congress Center.

3. Registration & Payments

  • All scientific sessions (8–10 September)
  • Conference proceedings
  • Coffee breaks
  • Light lunches (8, 9, and 10 September)

  • Closing ceremony with gala dinner (10 September)

Yes. Discounts are available for:

  • EurBee members (membership can be paid together with registration)
  • Early-bird registrations submitted by 15 June 2026
  • Students and PhD students (proof of status will be required)

These categories are cumulative — participants may benefit from more than one discount simultaneously.

The conference assumes most participants will also become EurBee members, which involves a standard administrative procedure that enables a small discount. Non-members require separate administrative handling, which entails additional costs reflected in a slightly higher participation fee.

This choice determines how the invoice is issued. Selecting “individual” means you pay personally and may then seek reimbursement from your institution upon presentation of a receipt. Selecting “company/freelancer” means your institution pays directly and receives a formal invoice.

Yes, bank transfer is accepted. Please note that this payment method carries an additional administrative management fee of €4.90.

Please write to the organising team at eurbee2026@edagricole.it and they will assist you promptly.

We do not have set group discounts. However, larger groups help to keep administrative costs low, which could reflect in financial advantage for individual participants. If you believe this applies to you, please contact us at eurbee2026@edagricole.it.

4. Abstract Submission

Do I need to register and pay before submitting an abstract?

No. Abstract submission and conference registration are independent procedures. Submitting an abstract only requires a free pre-registration (sign-up) to Oxford Abstracts, accessible from the EurBee 11 website (www.eurbee2026.com). If your abstract is accepted, you will need to confirm participation by paying the registration fee by 5 July 2026.

Yes. Up until the submission deadline, you may amend the title, text, authorship, and affiliations of your contribution directly through the submission platform.

The Local Organising Committee has redesigned the conference topics to reflect the expanding scope of modern apidology. If you are uncertain, simply choose the most relevant topic available. The Scientific Board reserves the right to suggest a reassignment to a more appropriate topic if needed.

Yes. The EurBee 11 policy about submissions establishes no limits to the number of contributions submitted by an individual author.
